hatching of romance

“Initially there were handful of other songs I had thought about choosing for my piece - “The Wolf” feels delicate yet visceral, “Whatever U Like” is probably my favorite on the album - but then when I relistened to “Hatching Of Romance,” I had a very clear vision of the kind of piece I wanted to create. To me, this song is about self-sabotage, and the search for love without being able to get out of your own head. In this scene, the viewer is cracking an egg, representing fresh, young love, and releasing all of its emotion and potential into the world before it has a chance to develop and hatch. The egg spills out into the universe forming into a small flame that will eventually lose the fuel of oxygen in the vacuum of space and vanish. I wanted to make this illustration feel hectic and cluttered to represent the potency of a new romance, so I included swirling stars, dust, and moths that represent a kind of giddy nervousness (butterflies in the stomach) as well as the passing of time. “
